Why washi paper?
Washi paper was born from traditional Japanese techniques and is a material that has supported daily life for over a thousand years. Its lightness and breathability make it a natural addition to modern functional clothing. Its excellent abrasion resistance also makes it suitable for outdoor activities.
OFLA's washi thread is made from the bark fiber of the Manila hemp (abaca) plant. It can be harvested in a short cycle of about three years after planting, and is a sustainable material that does not require pesticides or excessive water, and is biodegradable.
Clothing releases fibers when worn and washed. If chemical fibers are released outdoors, they will remain in the environment, but this is not a concern as washi paper is biodegradable.
The reason behind the selection of these sustainable materials is OFLA's brand philosophy of "protecting the natural environment and restoring biodiversity."
We make environmentally friendly choices starting from the raw materials stage of our products.
For more information on washi materials, please see the column on our website.

Functions derived from washi paper
-
Breathable and moisture-wicking
The porous fabric of washi paper is extremely light and breathable. It quickly absorbs and releases sweat, preventing stuffiness and providing a constant, dry and comfortable feel on the skin.
-
Antibacterial and deodorizing effects
The plant-derived antibacterial ingredients in the washi paper fibers naturally suppress the growth of bacteria and sweat odor, keeping the garment clean even during long periods of activity or when traveling in places where washing is difficult, eliminating the need for frequent washing.
-
UV protection effect
The plant fibers that make up washi paper have the ability to reduce UV rays, gently protecting the skin even under strong sunlight. The fabric itself acts as a natural sunscreen, without the need for post-processing with chemical UV-blocking agents.
Made in Japan
OFLA products are carefully crafted one by one by skilled craftsmen in Japan. Each piece is also dyed with the utmost care. The sewing is done in Iwate, and the dyeing is done in Tokyo. Both are done in workshops with techniques cultivated over many years. The precision of handwork is evident in every detail, something that can never be achieved through mass production.
It brings out the texture of the fabric to the fullest, making it a garment that blends naturally into the wearer's lifestyle.
